Glimpses of 6 at 35

I believe in God. I believe in Jesus Christ. I believe in the power of words.  I believe in the dreams we dreamed at age 6 when we believed we would marry our own personal Ken doll, have a house with a picket fence, 3 kids and a dog.  I DON'T believe in fairy tales, but I DO believe in happy endings to the 24 hours we spend living each day.  And yes, I am just bold enough (or maybe delusional enough, depending on who you ask) to believe that even at age 35, I have what it takes to make the dreams I had at age 6 come true 29 years later.  I remember age 6 clearly...sometimes a little TOO clearly. I never said "IF I ever get married, IF I ever have a house, IF I have a child, or IF I change a little piece of the world I live in".  It was always "Mommy, when I ....".  Even at age 6, the possibility that my dreams couldn't or wouldn't come true did not register with me. So it shouldn't be any surprise that two years ago, when I started the journey of writing my debut children's book "Meet ClaraBelle Blue", I wrote it down the dream that I had for the book, and literally DECLARED that it would happen.

I found the following note on my Facebook timeline tonight.  I wrote it 23 months ago, on the night/morning that I wrote the very first draft of "Meet ClaraBelle Blue" .  Reading it tonight, it was the EXACT motivation I needed to keep pushing forward.  Because I am so close.  Nineteen days and counting. Thirty five years and believing.

My Dream for CBB
by Adiba Nelson (Notes) on Friday, May 27, 2011 at 2:15am
a few things....

1: three days ago I watched Beyonce's "Girls Rule The World" performance and was inspired...not by her insanely gorgeous body, or her unwavering ability to dance non stop in heels...but by the fact that she is younger than me, and is LIVING her dream....INSPIRING.

2: two days ago I had the Journey song "Don't Stop...Believin" stuck in my head all day....random...especially because I hadn't even heard it on the radio...

3: last night on American Idol I watched a 17 year old boy make HIS dreams come true....and the ever so amazing Steven Tyler sang "Dream On"...more specifically..."Dream On....Dream On...Dream On...Dream Until Your Dreams Come True...."
4: Tonight I found a quote from "Field Of Dreams"...and though I can't remember it right this second...it struck a chord at the time....

....hmmmmmmm...notice anything here???
I have a dream.....and not the Martin Luther King Jr.type of dream...although like his, my dream is not for myself....and maybe that is what it's about....Dreaming for something bigger than me...bigger than my brain can cmprehend...Big enough to make me stand up and do right by it....

I have a dream....and it will come true....

Reading that tonight gave me goosebumps. I hope it gives you the courage to dream - and dream BIG. May the notion of impossible be so completely lost on you, that you know nothing else to do but follow your dreams.
